Environmental responsibility

Correct use of resources and environmental care

Being aware of why the environment is and will always be, even more in the future, a key aspect in the development of the welfare of the community and therefore a competitive advantage in an increasingly broader and demanding market, in the quality and behavior field, the Group’s Companies are committed to complying with the national legislation concerning environmental protection, encouraging a management of its activities centered on the proper use of resources and environmental. (Ethics rules of ACMAR and the Society Groups’)

Effectively managing the material and energy resources and minimizing the environmental impact on business activities are challenges that, the ever increasing importance of climatic changes and  environmental degradation, the national governments, institutions, business and citizens must face in the coming years.

Solar Photovoltaics

With an investment of more than 750.000 euros in December 2010, ACMAR’S leader has completed installation works on the roof of its Working Centre in San Michele (Ravenna), two photovoltaic systems for electricity production, both made up of 425 modules photovoltaic polycrystalline silicon cells, and each rated at 99.875 KWP.

The photovoltaic system was connected on 2011 and it is able to produce a total of 218,092.16 kWp / each year, avoiding ATMOSPHERIC EMISSIONS of 115.8 tons of CO2 per year (as calculated by applying the conversion factor specified by the Ministry Environment for the Italian electricity mix).

By applying appropriate factors of modules’ performance degradation, it is then calculated that within ten years, the two photovoltaic systems will avoid the emissions of more than 1,100 tons of CO2.

Geothermal, cogeneration, energy high performance materials

“The sustainable development refers to a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to suit their own needs” (Gro Harlem Brudtland, Word Commission on Environment and development, 1987).

In order to pursue a policy of significant reduction of CO2 emissions related to the energy requirements of the buildings, ACMAR, in a two-year period from 2009 to 2010, began to introduce technological systems of heat combined production with high-efficiency systems of electricity production from renewable sources in its own self-promoting real estate.

These systems, along with the use of innovative materials with high energy performance and several other structural devices, advanced design and engineering, allow the achievement of high energy performance that greatly exceeds the minimum required by law on limiting energy use.

Waste Management

Hazardous waste production is directly connected to productive activities, i.e. the production of goods and services. In this respect, there is a strong tie between the evolution of the company’s turnover and the production of hazardous waste.

A total of about 25 million kilos of waste arising from construction activities were produced in ACMAR in 2013. Almost all of the hazardous waste (97.1%) belongs to CER 17 family that is waste arising from construction and demolition, including road construction (C & D).

Of these, 83.98% are made of bituminous mixtures and 3,36% of earth and rock excavation.

Almost all of the waste produced on construction sites in 2013 was salvaged and only a very small part (0,07%) was sent to disposal.

This is the important result of a careful and prudent application of appropriate systems on storage sites and waste collection, made in accordance with the procedures of the Environmental Management System, along with the constant awareness of this issue by the internal and external construction site staff.
